before the sun rose started as a collaborative project in Spring 2020, combining both photography and short journal entries. With the start of the pandemic, which made it difficult to have it printed, the work was first presented as an online diary published on Tumblr, under the same title.
“This project is a record of the first year of me and my boyfriend’s relationship. We took turns writing the journal entries and taking the photos, which turned out to be an interesting way to see each other’s perspectives of our relationship. We did not set any rules or guidelines for this project, but we found ourselves naturally gravitating towards recording how we evolved as individuals as we spent more and more time together.”
